Introduction
IDTV Film was established in 2008 when the two production companies Motel Films (founded 1996) and IDTV Film (founded 1999) joined forces. IDTV Film produces quality feature films and television drama for both the Dutch and international markets. By the combination of bringing in new talent, and continuing the collaboration with established writers and directors, IDTV Film develops and realizes original, urgent, contemporary and moving films. IDTV Film produces with care and attention; mainstream feature films as well as art house productions.
Recent films are amongst others Joy (Mijke de Jong), which was selected for the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival, First Mission (Boris Paval Conen, Barbara Jurgens) and R U There by director David Verbeek, which was selected for Un Certain Regard, Cannes 2010.
2010/2011 premieres include: The Odd One Out/ Vreemd Bloed by director Johan Timmers (based on a screenplay by Maria Goos), feature film Pizza Maffia (Tim Oliehoek), The Secret/Het Geheim (Joram Lürsen, Frank Ketelaar) and Black Butterflies, starring Carice van Houten, Liam Cunningham and Rutger Hauer. This feature film is about the love and life of South-African poet Ingrid Jonker and is directed by Paula van der Oest. Drama series Line 32, a coproduction of IDTV Film, KRO and NCRV will have its television premiere in 2011. The series is directed by Maarten Treurniet and written by Maarten Lebens, Karen van Holst Pellekaan and Marnie Blok.
June 2010 the shoot has started of Isabelle, the psychological thriller of Ben Sombogaart. Also in production is the drama series 't Spaanse Schaep.
On the international market IDTV Film co-produced among others Silent Light which was awarded with the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival 2007 (Carlos Reygadas), Unspoken (Fien Troch) and My Queen Karo (Dorothee van den Berghe). Other productions are international Hubert Bals co-production Gigante (Adrián Biniez, Uruguay), the international feature film Storm/ The Tribunal (Hans-Christian Schmid), co-produced with 23/5 and Zentropa, and the Belgian co- production The Misfortunates/ De Helaasheid der Dingen (Felix van Groeningen). Gigante and Storm both were selected for the competition of the Berlin International Film Festival 2009, where Gigante won a Silver Bear, the best First Feature Award and the Alfred Bauer Prize. The Misfortunates received various international awards, amongst others the Prix Art et Essai at the Cannes Film Festival 2009 (Quinzaine des Realisateurs).
